WFH // Wax From Home

Today let’s chat about WFH - not working from home, but waxing from home. I’ve been getting waxed on and off for a few years but often got pretty lazy about going to get it done . Not to mention the cost of waxes would add up. I have quite a high pain tolerance so I thought I’d give it a try on my own. I had bought all the materials for myself in either 2018-2019 and even then I was pretty lazy about doing it lol.

I ended up just picking up a simple wax warmer from the brand Gigi - they have a few options but I went with one where you can control the heat temperature. Now that I’ve been waxing a bit more frequently at home, I have been thinking of upgrading my wax warmer and have specifically been looking into this one from Wax Necessities. This one looks nice because it has far more options for temperature selection and also the pot is removable which would be a lot easier to clean.

I’m a fan of hard waxes as I find they’re the easiest to use and in my opinion are the best for minimal mess. Hard waxes will stick to the hair only and pulls away from your skin, so it also tends to be less messy. But without the need for little fabric pieces to attach to the wax to pull, it also is a touch more eco friendly.

When I first decided to do at home waxing, I just picked up a standard hard wax on Amazon. I ended up getting a rather large bag since it was more cost efficient and it ended up lasting me over a year. In terms of cost per use, this was deffffinitely worth it. After I ordered this of course I started getting ads for wax brands and two that caught my eye were Starpil & Mermaid Wax. They both looked great and I knew I wanted to try one of them when I finally finished my bag.

In the end I decided I’d try a small bag of Mermaid Wax to see how it went. I went with the Sirena Hard Wax in a 1.1 lb bag (again, since I just wanted to try it out) and honestly my first impressions are great. The cost is definitely up there at ~$40 but when you think about how a professional wax one time is the same price, it’s really not that bad. I’ll probably get a good number of waxes out of this and when I do this on my own I can do my 😺, underarms, and even my upper lip - honestly whatever I feel like lol.

I thought the Mermaid Wax was definitely very elastic and a thin layer was all that was needed. It really did grab pretty much every hair and I only had to go over a section once. Also look at how pretty the wax ends up looking !! I know it doesn’t really matter, but hey it’s fun.

What are your thoughts on waxing from home? Do you do it too or would you rather get it done by a professional?
