At Home with CHY | A New Type of Shelf

Calling it here that the 20s will be a decade of not holding onto furniture that no longer brings you joy. I’ve been wanting to mix up my furniture for quite a while but as we’ve been renting, we wanted to hold off on buying too many new things until we bought a house. One of the most important lessons about furnishing your place as an adult is to go slow and know that what works in one space may not work in the next.

When I was living at my childhood home post college, I found a shelf at IKEA in the as-is section. It served me well for ~5 years and I finally decided to part ways with it. One of our close friends just moved and had a use for it so I let it go to a new home. (Tbh T was a bit sad, it matched his desk and I think he would’ve liked to keep it for the future lol - oh well). Our space was just feeling very dark and cluttered and I wanted a way to feel a little lighter and make things feel brighter.

I saw a few accounts featuring the DWR Story Bookcase and decided to pick it up. I was pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to assemble - each compartment/level comes in a piece and is connected slowly as you add pieces on top. This will make it much easier to take apart when we inevitably move. For this reason, we also kept the box it came in so we could nicely store away the pieces when we move. I’m definitely in need of a little book purge and while I had round one already, I’ll probably do another one soon.

I have kept pretty much every book I’ve ever owned - including those from high school & college English/Lit classes. I did a poll over on IG Stories and majority of people said they actually did get rid of those books - so I did the same. I did end up keeping a few of the books I enjoyed and would consider re-reading in the future: The Great Gatsby & Slaughterhouse-Five. I think there are a few more at my childhood home but I’ll get those eventually.

Now through March 18, 2021, DWR is having 15% off during their semiannual sale. If you’ve been looking, now is a great time! Shipping did take quite a while but better now than later. Also Rakuten is offering 2% cash back so be sure to stack those deals. If you don’t have Rakuten, use my link to join and we BOTH get $30!
