Choosing My Six Penny Couch + Review After Six Months

As much as I influence my friends (and readers), I am also influenced by my friends and other creators. A few years back, my friend was talking to me about Six Penny couches and that was the start of the obsession. Six Penny is a relatively new brand so it was quite hard to find a ton of photos of couches in actual homes, but nonetheless from the photos I did see, I was in love.

Six Penny has a variety of couch styles, all classic with minimal lines and thee most impartant factor - looking comfy AF. The hard part is figuring out what type of fabric material you want and then what color. Six Penny is completely online and currently does not have any show rooms, so it was really important to order swatches to see how it looked in my actual space. Six Penny allows you to order 12 fabric or leather swatches for free, anything beyond that will be $2 apiece. Six Penny also has some furniture which you can get a swatch of their wood for $6 each.

Some of the different fabrics they offer:

  • Cotton Canvas | 100% Cotton

    • a thick and structured (but soft) canvas

  • Cotton Linen | 60% Cotton / 40% Linen

    • a nice blend of comfy cotton and airy linen

  • Thread-Dyed Cotton Linen | 55% Linen / 45% Cotton

    • similar to cotton linen, this seems to have a nice blend of materials with a fun pop of color

  • Washed Cotton Linen | 80% Linen / 20% Cotton

    • a slightly stretchy, textured, breezy blend

    • this was almost a contender for me but I am a huge couch potato and most of the couches I saw in this material (mostly corn silk) looked either untouched or extremely wrinkled. my dog is kind of a jerk and I know I wouldn’t be regularly vacuuming, steaming, or fluffing so axed this option almost immediately (sadly)

  • Washed Cotton Velvet | 100% Cotton

    • * I have a corgi that sheds like crazy so I opted out of velvet very quickly and didn’t pick up any swatches.

  • Light Weight Linen | 100% Linen

    • described as an airy pure linen that is lighter weight than the next option

  • Medium Weight Linen | 100% Linen

    • described as an indulgent pure linen, and has a thick weight to it

  • Meridian Leather | 100% French Full Grain Leather / Finish is hand-sanded nubuck

    • this is hand-sanded and drum dyed for a worn-in look and feel.

    • I was highly tempted to get this material actually because it was so so soft and buttery. But my dog’s nails would absolutely wreck the material lol.

** Note, not all sofa styles come in each fabric variation. You’ll need to check to see what is available. They’re continuously bringing out new fabrics and sofa styles so it’s nice to see that the brand is expanding!

They have so many beautiful sofa shapes and it was honestly very hard to choose which one to go with. Overall it came down to the sizing of our living room as each of their sofa options have various sizes. Be sure to look closely at this when ordering! T and I knew we really wanted a sectional so that we could lay out straight so we opted to get a sectional with a chaise over a regular sofa. If space allowed for it, we probably would’ve gone for a double chaise in a U-Shape. (Sometimes I think about picking up another Aria Ottoman to attach to the other end of our sofa haha.)

Overall we ended up getting the Aria Sectional Sofa in the Light Weight Linen (Water Lily). I’m a bit sensitive to Feather Down items so we opted to go with Poly Fill. I’ve never sat on another Six Penny sofa but the Poly Fill one we got is super comfortable as well. I like to think that this holds its shape a little bit better as I don’t notice that our sofa gets as saggy as some of the other sofas I see on social media.

We love lounging on our couch and this is honestly more than enough space for T, our dog, and me to all sit on the couch. We love hosting friends and this sofa is large enough to comfortably seat 6 of our friends, and can squeeze in another 1 or 2 on the ottoman. We also like that we have the option to break the sofa up if need be to give more separation around the room because we love to rearrange our house.

Overall after having this couch for 6 months, we still truly love it. Sometimes I kick myself for getting a white couch but it really just looks so beautiful (and has held up well against marks). Every friend that has sat on it has loved it too, and most never want to get up haha. I think Six Penny is also not a super well known brand so if you’re looking for something a bit more unique in your home, this is a nice option aside from your usual West Elm / Crate & Barrel pieces.

During Memorial Day, Six Penny has a sale for 20% off (which is a huge saving for these costly investment pieces). There than that, they offer 10% off if you sign up for their newsletter. I’ve seen occasional 15% off sales pop up through the year around typical holidays. The sofas have quite a lengthy lead time if you aren’t able to catch one that is ready to ship, so keep that in mind when you’re sofa shopping!
