Boy Smells PRIDE Candle Collection

If you know me, you’ll know that I am a candle burning fiend. I’ve tried my fair share of candles over the years and have developed quite an opinion on candles. One of my lovely IG friends @ashleyhosmer is a fellow candle lover and is doing a series on her stories rating candles. She’s rating candles based off of several points: aesthetic, price, scent throw, burning, etc.

One of my favorite candle brand discoveries has to be Boy Smells. They’ve been on my radar for a few years now and up until a few years ago I had only seen the notes of each candle online. When I was in NY a few years ago, I was walking around with Mili (aka @sharmtoaster) and got to smell a few of their candles in person.

This PRIDE collection partnered Boy Smells with The Trevor Project and donated 15% of proceeds during the months of June & July. Through the PRIDE collaboration, Boy Smells was able to raise over $42,000 for The Trevor Project which is an incredible feat. It’s the little things that brands can do that help us as consumers decide where we’d like to spend our money.

I picked up this PRIDE Votive Sextet Set as there were a few scents that I had not smelled before so I was hesitant to pick up the full size set. I also can quickly get bored of scents so usually I find it best to get smaller versions to determine if I truly love a scent. I have a few exceptions and have bought several replacements of only 4 candles: Boy Smells LES, Diptyque Figuier, Otherland Canopy, and Overose Ultraflora/Indasmin (which is sadly now discontinued 😭). The candles come in mini 3oz votives. This set was $102 and comes down to $17 per candle, which is not terrible at all. If you’re curious, the full size candles are $34 so this was half off.

The votives come in fun candy colored glass tumblers which come with their standard pink label. These are made from a coconut/beeswax blend and always burn quickly and evenly - a key step for avoiding tunneling and easily repurposing your candle jars. (And with jars this pretty, I definitely want to make sure I keep and reuse these!)

From Boy Smells’ collection, they have chosen the following six scents:

ANJELICA  sicilian lemon, bitter orange, powdery musk, angelica seed, jasmine and abroxan

CAMEO  crystalized ginger, rose, tuberose, vanilla, white woods and musk

CEDAR STACK  cedar, labdanum, juniper berry, sawdust and white musk

DAMASQUE  rose, apricot, labdanum, cardamom, oud, cistus, guiac and tobacco

LES  black currant, peach blossom, jasmine rice, cardamom and white cedar

PRUNUS  oakmoss, fig, plum, vanilla and yuzu

***

I will admit that I am horrible at describing scents, but some quick fire descriptions:

  • Anjelica smells soft, floral, and musky

  • Cameo smells sweet and floral

  • Cedar Stack smells like potpourri (this one is my least favorite)

  • Damasque smells like a spicy holiday candle (I can’t wait to burn this once Fall hits)

  • LES smells soft, fruity, and floral. I almost want to describe this as milky but that also seems strange lol

  • Prunus smells like fresh cut grass (second least favorite lol)

Unfortunately the votive set is sold out on the Boy Smells website, but it IS available here. If you prefer to order from Boy Smells directly, you can pick up the full size bundle from the Boy Smells site directly with all six scents ($184) which comes out at ~$31 per candle, or the bouquet bundle which comes with a pack of 3 full sizes ($92) with Anjelica, Cameo, and Damasque.

I do appreciate that Boy Smells candles burn easily and have a crazy good throw (both a cold throw and warm throw). For those of you that aren’t candle obsessed, this means that you can smell the candle when it’s both lit and unlit. This is a huge deal for me with candles because while I am a low-key pyro, I do want a candle that I can smell and enjoy. But that also makes me extremely picky with candles because who wants to smell a candle they dislike?

What are your thoughts on these candles?
Have you tried any from Boy Smells? If so, let me know your favorites!
