The Skincare Edit 001 | Morning Routine

It's happening - I'm finally talking about my morning skincare routine! I'm actually more surprised that I haven't done this type of post yet, it's such a basic post to do. Background on photo inspiration - I've seen so many Christmas DIY posts lately and some of them have used little scrabble pieces to spell out words. Obviously I wanted to do so as well and requested my boyfriend to bring me his Bananagram set (I have no idea where my Scrabble set is). I've mentioned before that my morning skincare routine is pretty minimal, so although there are quite a few products here I don't actually use them all (at once). Enough blabbing, let's get into the post!

I always grew up using a small face towel and running it under warm water. No soap, no fuss. Sometimes I feel like using your hands to wash your face and pat dry with a towel is problematic as you're transferring oils from your hands to your face - so I'll usually skip out if I'm not using a face wash of some sort. As you'll soon see in my evening skincare routine (coming next week), I love to load up on serums at night while I sleep. I honestly hate the feeling of anything on my skin so I'll always wash my face in the morning (I found out that some people don't..? Idk. Personal preference.)Lately with all the serums I like to give my face a little scrub as I usually end up with a spot or two when my skin is feeling "congested." I've been trying my best to finish up my Tata Harper Regenerating Cleanser - it's gentle enough for everyday use, but I'll usually limit it to every other day or two. One of my recent purchases during the Sephora sale (haul here) that I am loving is the Son & Park Beauty Water. A friend of mine recommended this to me and I'm so glad I took the chance to try it (Thanks Rebecca!!)! It's extremely gentle on the skin but leaves it feeling clean - no sticky residue is left behind and my skin never feels tight after. I've tried a few micellar waters before but was never a fan, this one has definitely changed my opinions on those. I've tried using this at night as an alternative to my Pixi Glow Tonic, and sometimes it gets last bits of foundation off that my double cleanse misses - A+ from me. If you're looking for a new beauty water / toner, I highly recommend this! Also, how can you not love the minimal packaging on it? Afterwards I'll usually go in with a drop of two of Glossier Super Glow (not photographed) and pat that into my cheeks and forehead for a subtle touch of an added glow. I'm not sure how much extra glow it gives, but I gotta keep using things to get products moving. This is a much more liquid consistency than that of Super Bounce (once that I'm pretty much all finished with), so the line on this is moving down far slower. FACE PRODUCTS
& MOISTURIZERS

I currently have quuuite a few products on rotation to slather onto my face. As mentioned in my 'Project Use it Up' post yesterday (HERE), I mentioned that I was trying to use up my Kiehl's Hydro-Plumping Re-Texturizing Serum Concentrate. This is a soft gel texture that instantly sinks into your skin. It intensively hydrates the deepest surface layers of dehydrated skin (which I totally have) which helps to reduce the appearance of fine lines. I know I'm only in my 20s, so I like to think of it as "early prevention." I've been using this day and night as a light moisturizer for the better part of 2016 and I am just nearing the end of the bottle. A little goes a long way and I'm digging it so far.

I've been neglecting my TooFaced Hangover Primer but I've slowly gotten back to using it. It is a makeup primer but I treat it as a sort of moisturizer. As I always feel the need to wash my hands after applying any product to my face, I leave this primer with my skincare bits so I can apply it and let it soak into my skin before I apply my makeup. I personally find it fine to use with powder or liquid foundation. I have read some mixed reviews, so I advise you give it a try ahead of time to see if it works with your skin type.

Another recent purchase in my Sephora sale haul is the Tatcha Balanced Pore Perfecting Water Gel. I have added it to my shelf (cause gorgeous), but I'm not allowing myself to use it until I finish off some bits in my skincare project use it up. Gotta adhere to my one-in-one-out policy, or things will get out of control. I do have a feeling this one may have been one to try during the warmer months, but we'll see how my skin fares during the colder months with it.

SUN PROTECTION

I'm pretty fortunate to live in California and it only recently started to drop in temperature. The sun always shines bright here so I'm always sure to use SPF on a day to day basis. I have a few products on rotation with SPF protection - it's important to use it even during the colder months when the sun isn't as apparent.

Another product that I'm aiming to use up is the Origins Dr. Weil Mega Bright Moisturizer with SPF 30. I'm not too sure about the brightening claim but it is very moisturizing and smells light and fragranced. I've finally reached the bottom of this pot so I'm pretty excited to finally finish it up. I've also got the pur~lisse Blue Lotus Essential Daily Moisturizer with SPF 30* that I've been rotating through. I was kindly sent some products to try and will probably have a post up in the next few weeks after I have had a better chance to try things out! This one is comfortable on the skin, a bit thicker in texture than the Origins one, but has a definite sunscreen scent. I do think this would be a good one to take on travels as it's a good 2-in-1, travel-friendly product. I also recently picked up a mini of the Tatcha Pore Perfecting Sunscreen SPF 35. This has a lighter sunscreen scent and isn't too bothersome, I love the pore perfecting aspect as it leaves my skin feeling so silky smooth and soft.

After I apply my makeup my favorite step has been to add a few spritzes of the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist. It is absolute heaven to spray and leaves your skin looking seriously dewy and glowy. I love it so much I bought a mini travel size so I can take it on all my upcoming trips. I never want to be without it!
